Orange Shirt Day 2019
Sunday, November, 3rd, 2019
On September 30, our Agency participated in Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters. This annual commemoration is one of the ways we can participate in acknowledging the historical events and ongoing effects related to the Residential Schools in Canada. As the story is told, Phyllis Jack Webstad attended her first day at a Residential School proudly wearing an orange shirt that her grandmother had gifted her. Upon arrival, the shirt was forcibly removed and she was never allowed to wear it again. As a result, September 30 has become the traditional day on which orange shirts are worn in solidarity to recognize the events of the past and to embody the collective efforts towards ongoing respect and dignity.
